What Is An Imbalance?
The natural world strives for balance in all ways. For example, the purpose of homeostasis is to maintain the established internal environment without being overcome by external stimuli that exist to disrupt the balance.
Energy healers work with the concept of energy imbalances in, and around, the body. These approaches propose that disruptions or imbalances in the flow of energy can contribute to physical, emotional, and mental issues. Energy healing aims to restore balance and promote well-being by addressing these energetic imbalances at the root.
When someone wants to get rid of weeds in their garden they know that the weeds have to be pulled up from the root, otherwise they will keep growing back. Above ground, the weeds represent the symptoms one may be experiencing and, more often than not, it is those symptoms that are being treated with Traditional Western Medicine, rather than the root. It’s not to say that this is unhelpful because many people experience relief from medications and treatments that address one’s symptoms.
However, energetically, an imbalance is caused by a distortion in the energy body and systems, which is the “root” of the weed. Energy imbalances are the root cause of all sickness and disease.
An imbalance is the cause and/or association of some state of disorder in the body. Energetic imbalances may manifest in a number of ways:
Physically, symptoms may show up as hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, chronic pain, inflammation, organ dysfunction, or structural abnormalities.
Emotionally, symptoms may show up as excessive or persistent feelings of anxiety, depression, anger, fear, or sadness, as well as difficulties in emotional regulation or experiencing a wide range of emotions.
Mentally, symptoms may include disruptions in cognitive processes and mental functioning. This can manifest as difficulties in concentration, memory, decision-making, cognitive flexibility, or experiencing persistent negative thought patterns.
There are many holistic traditions, some quite ancient, that consider energetic imbalances as underlying causes of physical, emotional, and mental disharmony. These imbalances may involve disruptions or blockages in the flow of subtle energy throughout the body, such as in practices like Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, and of course the Body Code.
